Markram’s Men Ready to Take on Pakistan Spinners in Upcoming Series
Aiden Markram has a blunt message for Pakistan’s spin attack ahead of South Africa’s upcoming Test series: bring it on. The South African team will be tested as they tour Pakistan next week, aiming to handle challenging subcontinental pitches.
South Africa’s Preparation
Markram, who will captain in the absence of Temba Bavuma, emphasised the team’s readiness: “If it’s your home game, you can prepare whatever pitch you like. There are no question-marks from my side.”
During a press conference on Monday, Markram reflected on England’s last tour of Pakistan, noting how spin-friendly surfaces impacted results. England had a tough time in the second Test at Multan when the worn pitch turned square, allowing Pakistan spinners Noman Ali and Sajid Khan to claim all 20 wickets across the match.
Learning from Past Tours
South Africa previously played a Test series in Pakistan in January-February 2021, losing in Karachi and Rawalpindi. However, aware of potential spin challenges this time, they trained extensively at Pretoria’s High Performance Centre, practicing on pitches designed to simulate Pakistani conditions.
Markram on Spin Practice
“There’s three pitches that are spinning quite a bit. Two are really exaggerated. The one in between is easier to bat on but still offers sharp spin. We tried to make the ball squat low as much as possible,” Markram explained.
Tour Schedule
- 1st Test: Lahore, starts Sunday
- 2nd Test: Rawalpindi, starts October 20, 2025
Team Outlook
Markram and his squad are prepared to face extreme pitch conditions and are focused on adapting to any challenge. Their practice sessions simulate the spin and bounce expected in Pakistan, giving them a strategic edge.
