Records Shatter as South Africa Enter Maiden ODI World Cup Final
Guwahati, October 30, 2025 — South Africa Women made history by qualifying for their first-ever ODI World Cup final, defeating England in a record-breaking semifinal clash at Guwahati. It marks the nation’s maiden appearance in any ODI World Cup final — men’s or women’s — as the Proteas continue their golden era in women’s cricket.
🏆 Historic Milestone for South Africa
This is the first time South Africa — men or women — have reached an ODI World Cup final. The women’s side had previously fallen short in three semifinals (2000, 2017, and 2022). With this victory, South Africa have now reached three consecutive World Cup finals across formats (T20 and ODI combined), becoming the only team to achieve this feat in women’s cricket.
They also join England, Australia, New Zealand, India, and the West Indies as the only teams to have reached both the Women’s ODI and T20 World Cup finals.

She also became the first South African to reach 5000 ODI runs and the youngest woman (26y 186d) to do so. Wolvaardt’s century was her 10th in ODIs, making her the joint fifth-most prolific century-maker in women’s ODIs.

🚀 Partnership Power: Brits and Wolvaardt Shine
The opening stand of 116 runs between Tazmin Brits and Wolvaardt was their eighth century partnership in ODIs — the most by any South African pair and joint-fourth overall in women’s ODIs. It was also their fifth 100-run stand of the year, matching a world record set by Australian and Indian pairs in earlier eras.
⚔️ England Collapse Under Pressure
England’s top order crumbled spectacularly — their top three batters were all dismissed for ducks for the first time in ODI history. The score at 1/3 marked the lowest total at the fall of the third wicket in Women’s ODIs. Despite a century partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt and Alex Capsey, England never recovered, eventually succumbing to their second-heaviest defeat in World Cup history.
🔥 Kapp Leads the Charge with Ball
Marizanne Kapp delivered a sensational spell of 5/20 — the best bowling figures by a South African in World Cup history. She became only the third bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup knockout, joining Anya Shrubsole and Sophie Ecclestone. With 44 wickets, Kapp now holds the record for most wickets in Women’s ODI World Cups.
